GREEN JOBS AND EVENTS BOOMING
New website serves up green opportunities across Canada

OTTAWA, May 5, 2010 - It just got a lot easier for Canadians to
participate in environmental initiatives in their communities. The
Canadian Environmental Network (RCEN) today announced the
launch of a comprehensive new eco-calendar, a green jobs board,
and an environmental volunteer board.

Hundreds of events have already been posted from across Canada, ranging
from a "Solar Home Tour", to organic gardening workshops, to national
scientific conferences. Hundreds of jobs on the site include everything
from tree planting work to executive positions at some of Canada's
biggest environmental organisations.

"This is a great initiative for recent graduates that want to gain
practical experience while helping the environment. It's reassuring to
know there are organisations that are looking out for students!", said
Sharif Virani, a recent University of Ottawa graduate.

The RCEN is a national network of over 600 environmental organisations,
many of whom are already using the service. The site is intended for all
Canadians, as well as green businesses, educational institutions and
environmental NGOs.

"Our goal is to make it easy for Canadians to participate in things that
interest them - everything from home energy retrofits, to green jobs, to
climate change policy.", said Robert Henri, RCEN Communications
Coordinator.

The Everdale Environmental Learning Centre, northwest of Toronto, is
already using the site. "It's like a community centre for everyone who's
striving towards a more sensible, ecological future", said Gavin Dandy,
Everdale co-founder.

"Getting involved in your community is one of the most rewarding ways to
make a difference.", said Henri. "It's easy to be cynical about the
environment, but once you've tapped into some of the positive things you
can do, that starts to change."
