Salary: $40,000-$45,000 depending on experience, plus benefits

Dogwood is pioneering a model to put control back in the hands of the public by bringing together citizens to reclaim decision-making power. The Dogwood model combines large-scale citizen engagement and recognition of Indigenous land rights with non-partisan political organizing, all of which is underscored by a commitment to continual improvement through testing and analytics.

We currently have an opportunity for a talented organizer to join one of the most successful organizing programs in the province. As a Dogwood Provincial Organizer you would build and support grassroots volunteer teams who are the powerhouses behind Dogwood’s campaigns to stop dangerous crude oil and thermal coal export projects and ban big money in politics.

The ideal candidate will be a passionate British Columbian with experience doing political, community, labour or other organizing work. You’ll need courage, tenacity and a genuine conviction that British Columbians should have the right to vote on the issues that matter most if governments aren’t representing our interests. You should be eager and ready to join the team that will run a successful B.C. Citizen’s Initiative to protect health and water from big oil projects.

Reporting to the Director of Organizing and working closely with staff, volunteers and Dogwood supporters in several key ridings in the South Island, the Provincial Organizer will:

  • Support the South Island Regional Organizing team, including regular check-ins with Regional and Riding Organizers

  • Manage canvassing, base-building and voter outreach, volunteer recruitment and training, in designated region

  • Participate in meetings with elected officials

  • Help Regional Organizing team build and maintain relationships with local ally groups

  • Ensure volunteer teams have the tools, skills, training, knowledge and materials they need to advance Dogwood’s campaigns at the grassroots, including a successful citizens initiative drive

  • Coordinate recruitment and signature gathering efforts for a citizens initiative to stop the Kinder Morgan pipeline and tanker project in your region

  • Support Dogwood’s communication and expansion efforts throughout the province

Desired Qualifications:

  • A demonstrated passion for politics, democracy and the environment.

  • Minimum one year of experience in grassroots organizing.

  • Willingness to test ideas and step outside your comfort zone.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Interest in training others and in leadership development.

  • Ability to manage complex projects.

  • Is grounded and demonstrates excellent listening skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, genuine enjoyment of people, and a positive attitude.

  • An entrepreneurial, proactive attitude with a focus on getting results.

  • Be able to develop and implement plans with clear goals, roles, timelines and metrics.

  • Be willing to help out where you’re needed – with fundraising, special events and communications content, for example.

  • Experience in a campaign setting (political or non-profit) preferred.

  • Strong technological aptitudes and proficiencies are preferred. Previous experience using Customer Relationship Management (“CRM”) software, such as Salesforce or NationBuilder, posting to websites and social media and using mass mailer software are considerable assets but not essential.

  • Experience with digital and campaign communications strongly preferred (e.g. using social media, videos, email and texting to power up organizing strategies).

Dogwood Initiative offers a flexible and rewarding work environment, including four weeks paid vacation in your first year. As an organizer, some evening and weekend work will be required.
